There has been some questions concerning the sound of the new 6-speed transmission. Please review the following statements or feel free to contact our service department with any questions.
The Sound of the 2007 6-Speed Transmission is different than the sound of the 5-speed transmission of previous years.
*The 2007 6-speed gearbox was designed using a helical design for second, third and fourth gears, a spur design for first and fifth gears, and direct drive for sixth gear, and each type has a unique sound signature.
*The RPM range on 2007 Big Twins is spread over six gears as compared to the five gears of previous model-year transmissions.
For these reasons, the sound emitted from any particular gear will be different than the 5-speeds.
Harley-Davidson has investigated reports about the noise differences and has found no functional issues with the transmission.
